To share files between two Android devices, both of them must be running Nearby Share with Bluetooth and location services turned on. You can tweak the feature to allow sharing with all your. Use the Select File to Send dialog box to browse for and select the file on your Mac that you want to send to the Android tablet; click the Send button. On the Android tablet, choose the Bluetooth notification. In the File Transfer window on the tablet, touch the Accept button. Bluetooth is another easy, wireless way of moving files like music, photos, videos, contacts and more, between Android phones, except it's painstakingly slow especially when you want to transfer large files. Turn on Bluetooth on both phones by going to Settings Connections Bluetooth, pair the devices, and then tap to select all the files.

Install Bluetooth File Transfer Bluetooth File Transfer allows you to transfer many types of files via Bluetooth between paired phones. Launch the app and tap on the menu button (which you can find on the bottom right in the action overflow menu).

Without any doubt, Bluetooth is an amazing technology that helps people to pair devices together for wire-free and even for hands-free usage. But, among the many uses of this technology, file sharing is something that is overlooked by many people. If you have two phones with Bluetooth enabled, you can easily share files between the two devices. Here is a small guide that will help you on how to transfer files via Bluetooth.

Transfer Files via Bluetooth Between Android and Other Phone

Step 1 Turn on Bluetooth on Both Phones

Turning on Bluetooth is the first step in the process. You can do the same in a couple of different ways. The first method is to pull down the menu of home screen, where you can find the Bluetooth switch option. The other method is to turn on the Bluetooth in Settings. The thing to remember here is that when you always keep the Bluetooth on, it will consume a lot of battery from your phone. So, once the file transfer is completed, just switch it off.

Step 2 Set and Pair Bluetooth for Two Phones

The next thing you will have to do is to pair your Android and another phone via Bluetooth. Just visit the Bluetooth interface in your Android phone and just tick the checkbox next to the interface, so that both the devices will become detectable to each other. The phone will be scanned by the other. Once it is identified, the phone will show different Bluetooth enabled devices in your home, from where you should choose the phone you want to pair. Here, you might be asked to enter the security key for the Bluetooth device if there was a password added to the phone. Once both phones are connected, you can start sending and receiving files between them easily.

Step 3 Transfer Files Between Phones via Bluetooth

As you are looking for file transfer from one phone to Android phone, the process will vary according to the operating system on the sending phone. However, most of the phones now have developed a user-friendly interface for easy file sharing via Bluetooth. The general process is that you will have to open up the Bluetooth application and should right click on the name of your phone displayed in the list of Bluetooth devices. Then, select the option send a file, which will open up the file menu, from where you will have to select the files that are to be transferred and click 'OK'. Now, your android phone will prompt you as to whether to allow or deny the files received. Just click on the OK button and the file will be transferred to your phone successfully.

How to Transfer Files between Phones with Phone Transfer

No all files are available for transfer via Bluetooth such as contacts or text messages. In this case, you need to look for other solutions. Phone Transfer is the recommended program to transfer data between different smartphones. It would be an Android phone, iPhone, Blackberry or even Windows phone. Besides phone transfer features, you can also use it to backup and restore phone data.

The steps of file transfer are quite simple. Connect the phones to a computer via USB and select the files you wish to transfer. Click 'Start Copy' button to start transferring data from one phone to another. I did a test with the program and it only takes 3 minutes to transfer 200 contacts and 300+ text messages.

If you connect your Android device to your Macbook, you will notice that yourphone is not recognized. Unlike Windows, Apple's Mac seems not so friendly toAndroid devices. Of course, you can install Android FileTransfer provided by Google and connectyour phone to Mac. But it is kind of cumbersome and does work so well. In thispost, I will introduce several ways to transfer files between Android and Macwirelessly.

I have tested the three ways listed below on my Mac and Android. For yourreference, the device info is:

  • Mac: Macbook Pro 2018 with the latest macOS Mojave (version 10.14)
  • Phone: OnePlus 3T with Android 8.0.0

In order to share files between Android and Mac using Bluetooth, you need toset up Mac first. Open the system preference setting and open the Sharingpanel. Turn on the Bluetooth Sharing service and set up the destinationfolder properly. Then you can share files via Bluetooth easily.

Pros and Cons

The advantage of this method is that you do not need to install any additionalsoftware since Bluetooth is the standard utility across different OS. But thedisadvantage is also obvious: the file transfer speed is slow. I have observedthat the transfer speed is about 100kb/s. For large files, it will take a lotof time. Unless you are always transferring small files, I would not recommendadopting this method.

From the KDE connect GitHub repodocumentation:

KDE Connect is a multi-platform app that allows your devices to communicate (eg: your phone and your computer).

First, you need to install kdeconnect forAndroidfrom the Google Play store. There is no official package for Mac. Fortunately, there is a software called Soduto which is like KDEconnect. So you can install Soduto on Mac instead.

After installing these applications, you should make sure that your Mac andAndroid device is connected to the same wireless router. Open kdeconnect onyour phone, you should be able to see your Macbook automatically like the imagebelow.

Tap the Mabook device and let your phone pair with it. Now, you can browsefiles on your phone easily and share files freely.

With kdeconnect, you can not only share files, but also share the clipboardbetween your Android phone and Mac. When you copy text on one device, the textwill be automatically synced to another device. Amazing, isn't it? The transferspeed is also high.

The disadvantage is that you need to install application both on your phone andon your Mac.

The third way is to installMiXplorer filemanager on your phone. MiXplore is a light-weight yet powerful file manager. With it, you can create FTP server or http servers on your phone, which yourMac can later connect to.

Create a HTTP server

Open MiXplorer and click top-right button and click servers… menu, you willbe prompted to choose a server type. Choose Start HTTP Server.

You will see a notification on your notification bar like the following:

Open the HTTP address in your browser, and you should be able to see all thefiles on your phone. Click a file to download it to your Mac1. To uploadfiles to your phone, first choose a file and then hit the upload button inthe interface.

The transfer speed is high and the process is stable.

Create a FTP server

Like the way to create a HTTP server, we can also create a FTP server on ourphone.

Transfer Files Using Bluetooth

After starting the FTP server, you need to connect to this server to sharefiles. To connect to the FTP server, you need a FTP application. You may trythe free software such as cyberbuck orfilezilla. Let's take filezilla for anexample. Install this application, open it and set up the FTP server, you willsee an interface like the image below:

In this post, I introduced 3 ways to share files between Android device and Macwirelessly. Overall, I recommend the second (using Soduto) and third way (usingMiXplorer), as these two methods can all guarantee high transfer speed. If youneed to exchange texts, URLs and other small text snippet between Android andMac frequently, maybe Soduto suits you better. Choose whatever way which suitsyou best.
